The important crop of Kodagu is coffee along with pepper and Cardamom. The taste of mandarin oranges lingers long in the taste buds. Kodagu is also famous for producing the tastiest honey.

The birth place of "River Cauvery" the life line of Karnataka, the luck line of Tamil Nadu is in Kodagu at the feet of Brahmagiri Hills known as Talacauvery which is the famous pilgrimage centre.

Kodagu attracts the attention of the whole world as it has produced great personalities like the first commander in chief Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, General Thimmaiah to name a few. The contribution to the defense from Kodagu is immense. At present more than 8,000 warriors are in the same field. Being in the defense force is the pride of every Kodava, where at least one from a family serves the nation.

Hockey being the national game o India, Kodagu is considered as the cradle of Indian Hockey. Like Generals many renowned National and International hockey players are the proud possessions of this little district. Hockey being the main sport "KODAVA HOCKEY FESTIVAL" is held every year after year, which was started 8 years ago. To start with there were 50 and odd teams participating and today it has attracted nearly 300 teams with 4,000 players and entered the 'Limca Book of Records'.

The Hoysalas, Chengalvas, The rulers of Halery and British have ruled the district respectively. The archaeological remains can be still found in some places.
